March 1st EP Release Party at Freight and Salvage
The Lemon Hammer has a new EP called "Made in a House." We have planned a big EP release party at the Freight and Salvage in Berkeley on Sunday March 1st. It's a family-friendly matinee show with doors opening at noon and show at 1 PM. Special Guest Judea Eden Band opens the show. FREE EP with admission!
To purchase tickets, go to the Freight and Salvage website. We are hoping for a sell-out so please get your tickets early!
Made in a House was written, recorded and mostly produced at my house in Berkeley. We took an old fashioned DIY approach: played gigs, wrote songs, played the bejesus out the songs, rewrote some of them together, recorded them, saved our gig money and recorded this EP. Here's a little taste of the EP: a song I wrote for my son, Leo.

Halloween 2014
Hey Peeps
I wrote a song for Halloween called "7 Lively Sins."
(NB...if you have highly-attuned blasphemy radar, you might want to sit this one out).
To atone for the lyrics, I am donating 100% of all Bandcamp sales to Doctors Without Borders/Medicins Sans Frontiers. MSF are leading the Ebola fight in West Africa (in addition to all the other non-partisan work they do around the planet). They consistently rank among the top charities for using donations directly for program work (92%) as oppose to administration, fundraising etc. They are frankly over-extended at the moment and every little bit helps. I'd love to be able to send them a check for $1K by Halloween.
Will you help? I am looking for 100 downloads a day for the next 10 days. Pay whatever you want for this track, and know that 100% of your donation will go to MSF to support its mission in Guinea, Sierra Leone, Liberia, and elsewhere. If you like the song and want to help, maybe you would consider forwarding this along to your friends as well? Thanks for listening!
A PS.
In other AH music news: Kate Isenberg's amazing video my song Heads or Tails just won one of 3 awards (out of 300 international submissions) at the Music Malt Video Festivalin Bangalore, India. We've also just been accepted into AnimArte, an international animation festival in Rio De Janiero, Brazil.

Heads or Tails?
I am thrilled to share with you an animated video for my new song, Heads or Tails. My dear friend, Kate Isenberg (a wonderful songwriter in her own rite) is completing her Masters in Animation at UCLA and decided to take this on as a school project. The many late nights she put into it really paid off. An early version of the video earned her a prestigious fellowship and funding from Simpsons creator, Matt Groening — and the final version just won Best Art Direction at the UCLA Animation Festival, the very first festival to screen it. Mentored by Animator/Story Artist, Sam Hood throughout the project, Kate manages to capture both the playful and serious side of the song in her own inimitable style. So check it out!

What's up with alexisharte.com?
If you have been to this page lately, you will notice updates are not as frequent as they used to be, so I wanted to take a moment to explain why.
Over the last four years, I have been dedicating more and more time to custom scoring and songwriting work. (Besides raising two kids and maintaining an old house and a marriage), most of my waking hours have been dedicated to the creation and building of Pollen Music Group — an amazing collection of composers, producers, and songwriters I’ve had the pleasure of collaborating with since our inception in 2010. For me, Pollen has become a full-time endeavor with 5 partners and a wide circle of freelance composers around the world.
To satisfy my ever-present live performance jones, I rehearse, write, record, and gig with The Lemon Hammer. To fans of my music, this band is a bit of a higher octane take on my songwriting, but also involves collaborative song-writing with a gobsmackingly talented cast: singer-songwriter Damond Moodie, bassist Fergus Lenahan, and long-time AH drummer Aaron Brinkerhoff. This is the best way to catch me live these days, so keep an eye on our FB page (and like us if you want).
We will be back in the studio this spring to record another EP which will be available on-line and at shows.
That said, I am also working on a new collection of original songs that I hope to record and release this year as a new Alexis Harte record. I will keep this site updated on the progress of that overdue project!
As always, thanks for listening!
Alexis

Alexis Harte "6 Spoons of Honey"
There is always a trick in balancing blues and folk. They are so similar, yet so far apart in the thoughts going into the songs and the sounds and patterns expressed outward. This album had me thinking about the balance that Alexis Harte is able to achieve. Not only are those two classic forms present, but there are some modern indie touches in some of the songs. "Hadn't Met You Yet" is the best example with its spooky guitar squawks and spacey synthesizer ambiance. It's a fabulous song worth the price of admission by itself. But there are other nice songs like the attractive "Love After All". Nice effort here and the result is an album that should appeal to a pretty wide base of music lovers.

Check out this review (PDF) from Vintage Guitar magazine about my latest CD, 6 Spoons of Honey.

Yesterday, I attended the mix session for Blood Makes the Green Grass Grow, a beautiful short film that I scored. The film was written and directed by Josh Peterson. We mixed at Skywalker Ranch with Oscar winner Gary Rizzo (Inception, Dark Knight). What an experience...

Why my radio silence...?
It's been a complicated year.
From high to low, 2010/2011 witnessed: a baby boy born in August; the launching of Pollen Music, a custom music and scoring collective with 3 of the most inspiring composers and individuals I've had the pleasure to work with; and a post-thanksgiving fall down a staircase (luckily sans baby boy) that landed me in the ER with a broken L3 vertebrae.
Between these events, I managed to make a new CD called 6 Spoons of Honey which, on reflection, seems to encompass all the highs and lows the year brought. In fact, I may have written the whole thing while airborne above my staircase — cartoon-like — in that calm alert state just before free-fall....read more
